SPORTFISHING IN QUEPOS
A Mecca for Sportsfishing, Quepos is home to numerous tournaments held each year. With a protected from the northern winds, the weather in the region is ideal for fishing year round. Fishing vacations are a top favorite for visitors to this area.
Anglers travel form all over the world to try to get a chance to hook a billfish. The season for billfish runs from November – April, but fishing is offered year round. If you are interested in going inshore or offshore fishing, Quepos is the perfect place for you. |
Sailfish are very plentiful in Quepos, and they are the most popular quarry there, but blue and black marlin will crash the party often enough to keep anglers on their toes, and add to the excitement.
Inshore, Offshore and River Fly Fishing
Offshore Fishing
FishingDorado and tuna are common catches here too, and those who invest time around submerged rocks in hopes of enticing roosters will be rewarded with their share of these impressive fighters, and perhaps even get to tangle with a dog-tooth snapper or one of many reef dwellers that inhabit the same areas.
Inshore Fishing
Inshore fishing on the reefs, islands and rocks and in the surf and river mouth for an incredible variety of sports fish. The list of available species includes: Roosterfish, Crevalle Jack, Snook (four different types), Snapper (five different types), Spanish, Sierra and Chub Mackerel, Bigeye and Bluefin Trevally, Stripped Corvina, Pacific Bonito, Longjaw Leatherjack, Mexican and Pacific Barracuda, Trippletail, Rainbow Runner, Skipjack Tuna, Jewfish and Dorado, to name a few. These waters hold numerous, current International Game Fish Association world records including the All Tackle record for Snook and various fly rod records for Roosterfish, Snapper, Jacks and several other species.
River Fly Fishing
River Fly Fishing Fish the rivers from the mountains to the sea in one of our custom built inflatable drift boats or small water duckies. Relax and let our guides take you from the whitewater of the higher altitudes to the wider, calmer waters of the lowland, coastal rivers. We are the only ones fishing from boats on the rivers, which means un-pressured fishing at it's best.
You can cast big dries, drift heavy nymphs, strip streamers and work poppers all on the same trip. We have caught up to nine different species in the same day, Including: Machaca, Snook, Roncador, Mojarra, Snapper, Guavina, Tepemachin, Bobo, and Tigerfish.

The boat offers the speed and luxury to fish one day or several days in the most prolific big game waters in the world, and depending on where the fish are concentrated at any given moment, the 46-foot Guthrie will work out of Flamingo Beach in Northern Guanacaste, further down the Nicoya Peninsula basing at Guanamar, Quepos on the Central Coast, and often running south to the less frequently fished waters in the Drake Bay and Cano Island area.
